You can let them know there are government assistance programs, including TA-DVS, food stamps, and free health insurance, that can provide short-term financial assistance.

They might qualify for a restraining order. Oregon has five restraining orders to choose from. Restraining orders are quick to get and can be a useful tool to help a survivor leave.

There are laws that allow a survivor to kick their partner out or end their lease early so they can move to safety. Learn more here.

Let them know there are laws that protect them at work. For example, they may qualify for up to 12 weeks of paid time off through the new Paid Leave Oregon program. Or, they can ask their employer to make changes at their workplace to help them stay safe.

They may be eligible for unemployment benefits. Survivors can get unemployment if they quit their jobs because of domestic violence. They can also qualify if they quit or were fired for other reasons.

Oregon provides free immigration attorneys to low-income people facing deportation. Refer them to Equity Corp of Oregon for assistance.

There are free and low-cost resources to help them through their case, including free help through the courts, free court forms, and free online information. 

They can sign a delegation of parental powers form, which gives a non-parent temporary permission to care for their child. Find the form here.

Refer them to their local legal aid office. If they don't have the money to hire a lawyer, they may qualify for a free attorney to represent them at the hearing.
