Native American Program of Legal Aid Services of Oregon (NAPOLS)
Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is a nonprofit organization working to achieve justice for the low-income communities of Oregon by providing a full range of civil legal help. LASO helps people with incomes up to 125% of the federal poverty level and in some situations can help people slightly above this level.
NAPOLS provides specialized, free legal services to income-eligible Indian Tribes, Native organizations and individuals. NAPOLS focuses its legal support on three priority populations: Youth, Elders, and Tribal Courts. Our areas of practice currently include: estate planning and will drafting; probate of land in trust; criminal records expungement; guardianships in tribal courts; education advocacy.
In addition to advice and counsel, brief service and limited scope, full representation, and relationship-based referrals, NAPOLS holds legal clinics and provides community-based education on topics of pertinence and urgency in the Native community. This includes Know Your Rights information, Elder Law topics, and Disaster Recovery.
