The Oregon State Bar Oregon Law Help Team

Keren is an attorney with a background in civil legal aid and family defense. As the Chief Access to Justice Officer at the Oregon State Bar, she oversees the Access to Justice (A2J) Department, which includes the Oregon Law Help Project, Lawyer Referral Service, Modest Means Program, and Legal Services Program.

Throughout her career in direct services, she has worked in offices that provide interdisciplinary support to clients, an approach to service delivery that recognizes people often face legal and other life challenges simultaneously. Before her current position, Keren held several leadership roles, including leading the Parent Child Representation Program at the Office of Public Defense Services in Oregon and serving as the Attorney-in-Charge of the Employment and Education Unit of Brooklyn Defense Services in New York.

Keren's legal career began as a family defense attorney at the Bronx Defenders, followed by a role as a staff attorney at New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, with a focus on disability justice. Keren received her J.D. from New York University in 2007. She also holds an M.Ed. in Child Development and Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education, obtained in 2004, and a bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, earned in 2002.

Keren is excited to contribute to the Oregon Law Help project, collaborating with the team and Advisory Committee to develop innovative strategies that address the civil legal needs of historically underserved and low-income Oregonians.

Christine is an attorney with a background in civil legal aid and design. She joined the Oregon Law Help project in 2023, where she creates and manages legal content, collaborates with external legal experts, and supports community outreach efforts.

Christine brings a unique blend of legal, design, and communication skills to her role. She previously served as the Family Law Program Director at The Commons Law Center, a nonprofit providing affordable legal services to Oregon’s low- and moderate-income families. Before that, she worked as a staff attorney at Legal Aid Services of Oregon from 2017 to 2022, handling cases involving domestic violence, housing, administrative law, and public benefits.

Christine earned her J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2016. Before law school, she worked as a graphic designer and wedding photographer. She graduated from Walla Walla University in 2010 with a degree in graphic design and a minor in marketing.

Christine is passionate about making the legal system easier to understand. She enjoys combining her design and communication skills with her legal experience to help everyday Oregonians learn about their rights and how to assert them.

Emily is an attorney with a background in civil litigation and access-to-justice work. She joined Oregon Law Help in 2026, where she develops and manages legal content and resources designed to help people better understand the law and navigate the legal system.

After graduating from Lewis & Clark Law School in 2014, Emily began her legal career in an Alaska trial court, where she closely observed self-represented litigants and saw firsthand how challenging the court system can be without legal support. She later spent several years in private practice, focusing on elder law, trust and estate litigation, and family law, before transitioning to work centered on supporting low and middle-income people representing themselves. Through her work providing legal coaching and unbundled services, as well as volunteering with Legal Aid, she has helped individuals approach complex legal issues with greater clarity and confidence.

With an undergraduate background in English literature, Emily has a longstanding interest in writing and communication. She brings that background to her work by creating clear and practical legal content grounded in real-world experience. She is committed to making the law more accessible and less overwhelming for all Oregonians.

The Oregon Law Help team also gets cross-department support from members of our legal, IT, and communications teams.

Joanna Knee (she/her), Access to Justice Coordinator, is an attorney with a background in family law and self-help services. She maintains the Legal Directory and oversees the final stages of content production. This includes post-publication review and coordination of translations to help ensure information remains accurate and accessible.

Shannon Gormley (she/they), Communications/Associate Editor, supports Oregon Law Help’s communications and outreach efforts. Her work includes liaising with community partners, distributing collateral, managing the quarterly newsletter, and helping build awareness of and engagement with the site.
